Viva at Kopi: Un Paso 2014- When I was your man
Dear You,
Today I’m
walking out of your life.
Not too young
and dumb to realise that you should be holding my hand,
taking me to dance.
taking me to dance.
You should
have, when you had the chance.
Now it’s much
too late to apologize for your mistakes.
Don’t worry
baby, I’ll keep dancing, but I’ll be dancing with another man…
Love,
Me
Viva Latinus was happy to be invited as guest performers at SMU's inaugural production- Kopi: Un Paso 2014.
For the occasion, our resident choreographer, Michelle from Dance Dynamix, weaved together an entirely new piece for some of our senior dancers in the team. This new piece 'When I was Your Man' was an emotionally charged rumba set to heart-wrenching lyrics.
As with all lovely pieces, it was not easy to pull off, and the dancers worked super super super hard for this item. This rumba item includes many exciting aerial lifts and stunts, whilst also infusing emotion-laden steps that draw out the anguished soul of the song and lyrics.
A break away from usual Latin items, the dancers did not get to wear Latin heels for this piece! Kudos to them for executing Latin steps without the support of heels!!
Perhaps the most difficult part of the item was not the steps, not the lack of shoes, not the stunts... but trying to get into character and wearing the right expressions.
Beautiful expression and long lines from Ruisheng and An
Even Jiaen and Mohan who are always laughing manage to get into character for the dance!
